Our Report: Some of the biggest names in tech and AI—including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI—have committed to a set of ‘Safety by Design’ principles, requiring them to implement child safety measures when developing, deploying, and maintaining their generative AI technologies.
🔑 Key Points:
The ‘Safety by Design’ principles—created by Thorn (a child safety group) and All Tech is Human (a nonprofit, tackling unethical AI)—should help combat AI-created child exploitation material.
The principles include commitments to: ensure training data doesn’t contain illicit material; abolish harmful content, and only release models that have been evaluated for child safety.
This collective movement underscores a shared approach to child safety, and Thorn believes “the more companies that join these commitments, the better we can ensure AI is rooted in safety.”
🤨 Why you should care: This comes as more than 104M cases of suspected child abuse were reported in the US, last year, and 4,700 images or videos of exploited children were reportedly made with AI.

Perplexity—the AI startup that uses chatbots to summarize and serve search engine results—is raising $250M in its latest funding round, at a company valuation of between $2.5-$3B.
This comes after two previous funding rounds: one in January, where they raised $74M, and another in March—led by NVIDIA, Jeff Bezos, and others—where they raised $63M.
Perplexity’s latest round signifies rapid growth and capitalizes on strong market interest and a willingness from investors to back a start-up that’s prepared to take on Search titan, Google.

Adobe has released a new, ‘significantly better’ version of its image-generation tool—Firefly Image 3—after underwhelming reviews of its two previous ‘’flawed’’ versions.
Firefly Image 3—available in Photoshop (beta) and Adobe’s Firefly web app—can understand longer, more complex text prompts, so it produces more “realistic” imagery.
It also provides improved lighting and text-generation capabilities, more accurately renders typography, iconography, and line art, and captures more detailed features.
OpenAI has announced new updates for enterprise customers, which include better security and administrative controls for organizations building and deploying AI solutions.
They’ve introduced ‘Private Link’ to help minimize an organization's exposure to the open internet and also multi-factor authentication as an additional security feature.
To give organizations control over their OpenAI projects, project owners/admins can also assign specific roles, manage access, and set usage limits to stop spiraling budgets.
